Treating acne using a natural acne remedy can be futile if you are poisoning your body with toxins in the foods and drinks that you consume.
There is a saying that you are what you eat, and the evidence of this can almost always be seen in the skin. Even people who do not suffer from acne will often experience greasy skin, spots and pimples if they consume a poor diet so acne sufferers need to pay close attention to this aspect of their lifestyle.
The Dangers of Sugar
First of all lets take a look at refined sugar. Now besides being bad for your teeth and bad for your health overall, an aspect that is sometimes overlooked is the huge surge of insulin that is created when an excess of refined sugar is ingested. This in turn leads to a subsequent surge in the male hormone testosterone which encourages the skin to release a large amount of sebum.
Sebum is a grease-like substance that is responsible for the conditions of acne. It clogs up the hair follicles in the skin and this is what leads to the spots and pimples. Note that this insulin rush is not just created directly from obvious sugary substances such as chocolate, cakes and sweets and so on. Any highly refined carbohydrates such as white bread, white pasta, rice also do the same thing.
Avoiding the Insulin Surge
The real problem here is not so much the sugar itself, but the surge of insulin which is created by the consumption of the sugar. Although some might suggest that you cut out all sugars from your diet, knowing that they are also to be found in many ordinary foods such as bread makes this advice much less practical. Obviously you should restrict your intake of obvious sugars such as sweets but one of the easiest ways to reduce the amount of insulin that is released is to never eat refined sugar on its own.
When you eat a meal, ensure that you have a good balance of carbohydrates, protein and fats. Also try to balance both refined carbohydrates and complex carbohydrates such as whole grains and vegetables. Eating refined carbs at the same time as protein and fat will slow down the release of the insulin and it will also have the side effect of keep you full for longer and avoiding cravings.
Whatever other natural acne remedy that you choose to try out, always make sure that you give yourself a fighting chance by starting with the right diet!
